Blog Cafés in Chernihiv: Fighting Fakes, Amplifying Youth Voices, and Building Local Security

Between May and June 2025, four blog cafés were held in Chernihiv as part of the “Together We Can” programme. These events provided platforms for developing critical thinking, media literacy, youth participation, and open dialogue around peace and security.

Young activists, project ambassadors, and community representatives joined the discussions to explore how to avoid disinformation traps, engage young people in civic life, understand the media’s impact on public perception, and learn how women and youth can drive local change.

May 8 — Media Literacy in the Digital Age: How Not to Fall for Fakes

Trainer: Yuliia Peretiatko
Participants explored different types of fake content, analyzed disinformation narratives in social media, and practiced identifying manipulative information sources. The session included a practical exercise based on real-life case studies.

May 26 — The Art of Podcasting and Vlogging: Finding Your Style and Building an Audience

Trainer: Yuliia Peretiatko
The group learned how to create high-quality video and audio content, use AI tools in blogging, and build compelling stories. Participants also developed their own mini-video projects focused on civic activism.

June 5 — Implementing UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 2250 in Local Communities: The Role of Youth and Women in Peacebuilding

Trainer: Alla Nitchenko
This session focused on the role of women and youth in security processes. Participants studied international tools such as Resolutions 1325 and 2250 and discussed how they can be applied at the local level. The event included lectures and collaborative planning.

June 17 — Engaging Youth in Civic Life

Trainer: Nikita Strelok
Why do young people often avoid civic engagement? What barriers stand in the way, and how can they be overcome? Participants tackled these questions and worked in teams to design real youth initiatives for their communities.

The Chernihiv blog café series demonstrated that topics like fakes, content creation, safety, and youth empowerment hold great potential for growth. What matters most is creating space for conversation, action, and cooperation.

We sincerely thank all trainers, participants, and partners for meaningful sessions, practical insights, and openness to learning.

The project is implemented by the NGO Human Rights Foundation as part of the “Together We Can” programme with the support of IFA and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
