Blog Cafés in Zaporizhzhia: Equality, Growth, and the Power of Community
Between June and October 2025, ten blog cafés were held in Zaporizhzhia and the Kushuhum community as part of the “Together We Can” programme. These meetings became spaces for dialogue on equality, humanity, motivation, and local development.
The programme’s ambassadors brought together community representatives, volunteers, educators, veterans, youth, and displaced women to talk about the challenges Ukraine faces – and the opportunities for recovery that arise from connection and dialogue.
June 4 – Women in the Military and Female Veterans in the Media Focus
Ambassador: Olena Poda
Participants discussed how the media can represent women in the military without stereotypes or oversimplification. They shared veteran experiences and explored new approaches to storytelling and communication.
June 18 – Youth Spaces in the Community: How to Create an Environment Where Young People Are Heard
Ambassador: Olesia Chornovol
Held in the Kushuhum community, this event fostered dialogue between young people and local authorities. Discussions focused on initiative, responsibility, and how to create youth-friendly environments for participation and growth.
August 6 – Volunteering as the Foundation of Community Development
Ambassador: Olesia Chornovol
Participants talked about the essential role of volunteering in strengthening communities, shared examples of local mutual support, and reflected on the people whose everyday work helps others.
August 20 – Life-Building in Ukrainian Realities 2022–2025
Ambassador: Marharyta Derhach
This session focused on inner resilience and psychological recovery. Participants discussed how to regain balance, redefine values, and find personal and collective strength in times of uncertainty.
August 24 – Activating the Resources of Life-Building
Ambassador: Marharyta Derhach
On Ukraine’s Independence Day, participants explored the idea of inner independence – how to maintain balance, identity, and integrity amid external challenges.
September 11 – Motivation and Self-Motivation as Factors in Achieving Goals
Ambassador: Hanna Kavun
The discussion centered on how to find the energy to move forward when circumstances are difficult. Participants shared techniques for setting realistic goals, building self-discipline, and supporting one another.
September 12 – Non-Discrimination and Human Rights
Ambassador: Tetiana Hrytsenko
The meeting focused on equality and respect as core values of a democratic society. Participants analyzed cases of discrimination, reviewed international human rights standards, and discussed how education can shape tolerance.
September 15 – Women Internally Displaced Persons: Must Media Stories Always Be “Happy”?
Ambassador: Olena Poda
A heartfelt conversation about displacement, loss, and resilience. Participants emphasized the importance of authentic representation of women’s experiences in media – stories told honestly and with dignity.
October 8 – Gender Equality: Reality and Challenges
Ambassador: Tetiana Hrytsenko
This session focused on the changing roles of women in communities, remaining barriers to equality, and practical tools for building inclusive spaces.
October 9 – Institutionalization of Youth Organizations
Ambassador: Hanna Kavun
The final blog café in Zaporizhzhia addressed the sustainability of civic initiatives. Participants discussed project management, partnership building, and long-term youth engagement in community development.
The blog café series in Zaporizhzhia proved that meaningful change begins with conversation. Openness, respect, and a willingness to listen and act became the shared values of all meetings.
